Hormone Therapy for Women

For many women in Sarasota and Manatee County, the years around perimenopause and menopause bring changes that are easy to dismiss and hard to live with - fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, hot flashes, weight that won't budge no matter what is tried. Too often, the response from a rushed 12-minute appointment is "your labs look normal" and nothing more. At Live Well DPC, we believe there's a better way.

What Is Hormone Therapy?

Hormone therapy is the use of hormones that your body produces naturally - hormones that are structurally identical to the ones your body already makes - to restore levels that have declined with age, stress, or the hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause. Because they match your body's own chemistry, your system recognizes and uses them the way it would hormones you produce naturally.

As estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone shift, the effects ripple through nearly every system: sleep, metabolism, mood, bone density, sexual health, and cardiovascular function. Restoring balance is often the missing piece for women who feel like they're doing everything right and still don't feel like themselves.

How Do I Know If My Hormones Are Out of Balance?

Hormone imbalance rarely shows up as a single symptom - most women notice several of these happening at once:

  • Hot flashes or night sweats
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
  • Brain fog or trouble concentrating
  • Mood swings, irritability, or anxiousness
  • Weight gain, especially around the midsection
  • Low sex drive or discomfort during intercourse
  • Irregular or changing periods
  • Thinning hair or dry skin
  • Joint aches or muscle loss

If several of these sound familiar, it's worth a conversation - not a guess.

How Is Hormone Therapy Different at Live Well?

In a traditional practice, time constraints and high patient case loads make it difficult for women to get the time with their provided that is needed to complete an extensive symptom review and discussion on the many options available to treat a women's specific needs. At Live Well, we keep a smaller patient panel by design, which means we have time for a comprehensive review your history, your symptoms, and your goals before recommending anything.

We start with a thorough conversation about your symptoms, health, and goals, followed by comprehensive lab testing to understand what’s actually happening with your hormones — not just a snapshot, but a picture built from your symptoms and your numbers together.

What Does Hormone Therapy Involve?

Based on your results and your goals, we determine which hormones you need and in what ratio. There's no one-size-fits-all protocol here.

Depending on what fits your life and your results, hormones can be delivered as:

  • Topical creams
  • Patches
  • Oral or sublingual options

We walk you through the pros and cons of each so you can choose what works for you.

Ongoing monitoring. Hormone therapy isn't a one-and-done prescription. We recheck labs, ask how you're feeling, and adjust your plan as your body responds and as your life stage changes - from perimenopause through post-menopause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hormone Therapy Safe?

This is one of the most common - and most reasonable - questions asked. Hormones, properly dosed and monitored by a qualified provider, have a strong safety profile for most women, and many patients find the benefits meaningfully outweigh the risks. However, hormone therapy isn't right for everyone; a history of certain cancers, blood clots, or liver disease may change the calculus. This is exactly why we don't hand out a prescription without a comprehensive evaluation - your history matters as much as your labs.

How Much Does Hormone Therapy Cost?
